The firing unit

Description

The firing unit is dedicated to combat low-flying air-borne targets and lightly-armored ground or on-water targets. The shooting is carried out from the spot, in any weather conditions, at any time of day while using remote target tracking.

The firing unit is connected to the command post via wireless link or wired connection, it receives data about air traffic and target combat commands with indicated, and targeted objects. The sighting sub-system is integrated with the tracking system and the IFF interrogator. Besides the PZR-A, there are the following components included in the firing unit (FU): the portable console for remote control, the autonomous power supply system and necessary means of communication. The firing unit is capable of automatic firing while using automatic target tracking and also it can be operated in a manual mode by the shooter.

When the firing unit is mounted on the artillery vehicle/tractor, the firing can be carried out from the platform of the vehicle (or from the post/terminal mounted in the cabin of the artillery vehicle). The system can work autonomously or it can cooperate with the entire battery, in order to create synchronized, fully-automated, closed shield for the strategic single point objects. The firing unit is characterized by high reliability and operational infallibility, while all the included devices are adapted to work in any weather conditions, because they meet the requirements of defense standards. The cannon/automatic gun is equipped with a remote source of power, which provides uninterrupted work for a period of at least seven days. Petrol refueling takes place, not more often than, once in six hours. The transport of the firing unit is done by towing or haulage – the artillery vehicle is used for that, it can tow the cannon or transport it on the platform of the truck. Furthermore, the firing unit can be transported by an aircraft or boat of any kind, under the condition, that it  meets the general terms and conditions of loading and securing the cargo on a platform or carrier dedicated for transporting artillery equipment.

The ammunition used against air-borne targets is the following: GROM/PIORUN missiles used interchangeably with the 23 mm cartridges for the 2A14 cannon of the following types: HEI-T, API, APDS-T, FAPDS-T (manufactured in or outside the country).

For ground and on-water targets it is recommended to use 23 mm cartridges dedicated for the 23 mm 2A14 cannon of the following types: HEI-T, API, APDS-T, FAPDS-T (manufactured in or outside the country).
